Please Help us Rebuild Our Future and Our Lives

The three of us are safe, but our lives have been stolen.

We are devastated.. heartbroken.. we have no words. For those who do not know, Mike, our puppy Oakley and I recently moved from Ontario to BC. We sold and donated most of our belongings, and the rest was carefully selected and packed into our vehicles. While parked in a well lit hotel parking lot under video surveillance on the night of July 27th in Winnipeg, our truck was broken into and almost everything we own was stolen from us. All of our remaining furniture, electronics (laptops, monitors, gaming consoles, cameras, headphones..), luggage (every article of clothing, shoes, jackets, boots…), jewelry, tools, personal framed photos of us, boxes of heirlooms and memories… all taken. We still have no words to describe how hurt and violated we feel. The insurance policy, that we were under the impression protected our belongings, only covers theft of the vehicle being towed (our car), which was thankfully not broken into; however, this has left us with approximately 15-20 thousand dollars in damages with no coverage. We will regret for the rest of our lives not ensuring we had full theft policy on both vehicles, but at this point the damage has been done. We are thankful that the three of us were not in the vehicle as the person responsible had clear intent, and this was a planned robbery caught on security footage. The hotel has no liability for incidents in the parking lot. We spent that entire day with the Winnipeg police and forensics unit who were a great help, however there are still no leads on where any of our stuff is and it is unlikely we will ever see our belongings again.

It brings me to tears to have to reach out to family and friends for any small financial help to get us back on our feet. As many of you know, we are both new graduates with a lot of student debt and clearly many life lessons to learn. The hopes of starting fresh in a new province have been crushed. Our dreams of beginning a life together, creating a foundation to help us grow professionally and personally have been broken down, and we are being forced to start over with nothing.
