Taree and the Mid North Coast of NSW is currently suffering a natural disaster: the worst flood in living memory.
Who we are and where we’re from
I am Nicole, and I am part of a small farming community of two dozen people, living amongst the hills west of Taree, and we are trapped!
Several times a year, the Manning River floods and cut us off from town. These floods are only getting more severe and frequent.
Long after the flood waters recede, we remain marooned, due to damage or destruction of three bridges, and landslips that block the road.
When these floods are major, we are isolated for up to a month at a time, without power or phone.
Being a small community, we aren’t a priority for emergency services, and can’t rely on helicopter drops.
Further, helicopters refuse to cart fuel for our generators. Without that fuel, we suffer total food spoilage and have no telecommunications.
Why we are raising money
Although we’re very self-reliant, we’re aiming to raise funds for our own community’s heavy lift drone: the DJI Fly Cart 30.
With this drone, we’ll be able to fly fuel cans across the swollen rivers, as well as other essential items like medication for some of our residents.
Our region is in crisis, and beyond that, everyone is dealing with cost-of-living pressures. Whatever you can donate to help us buy the drone would be massively appreciated. And, please, share this link with your friends.
Thank you,
Callaghan’s Creek, Khatumbhul, and Cundle Flat community
