Dexter is our 4 year old beloved dachshund and has came down with IVDD which in simple terms means a slipped disc in the middle of his spine. He had lost the use of his back legs, without spinal surgery he is very likely to end up paralysed. The surgery will involve removing the disc from the right side of his spine and relieving the pressure on the left side. Because Dexter is fit and healthy the surgeon is very hopeful for him to make a full recovery.
As a family we are devastated but most of all our 12 year old son and Dexters bestie, his brother Dave You never think it will happen to you but here we are in this situation with no insurance in place due to the premium going up to over £200 per month due to his kidney problem.
Dexter is currently in surgery at the Royal Dick Vet small animal hospital in Edinburgh and will likely be in for around 5 days.
As all animal lovers know the cost of veterinary treatment is at an all time high. We have been quoted £7000.00 for his spinal package which is a crippling amount of money to find especially in this current climate.
Dedicated to Dachshunds have very kindly organised all the equipment we will require for his recovery when we get him home. It leaves us with the bill from the Royal Dick vet to pay.
If anyone can help us by donating even the smallest amount or sharing our go fund me page we will be eternally grateful xx
