Hi my name is Shell and this beautiful senior girl, is Miya. She is 15 years old, and healthy for all her life. Miya’s story is quite special.

My husband, I and our firstborn child were living in Bulgaria in 2010, our eldest was 3 years old at the time. We walked all around the city of Sofia to find playgrounds to play at daily and one day we walked through a neighbourhood where there were lots of houses with flower gardens

and there by the trash can was this little black and white kitten. She was all alone, I didn’t see any mother cat around or other kittens. She looked about 2-3 months old, probably just newly weaned. We sat on the curb and she climbed in my child’s lap, and all over me too. She was so small, just a sweet little baby waiting for someone kind to take her home. My heart burst wide open. I put her in my jacket and we carried her all the way back home. As soon as we got into the house I showed her to my husband and asked him if we could keep her. My husband straight up told me ‘NO,’ and to take her back to where I picked her up from. I sobbed, absolutely heartbroken for her, all the way back while carrying her. I worried for days about her, we kept taking food to her and spending time with her while out on our daily walks. Then a torrential rain storm came, it was awful. I begged my husband to take me back to get her, and he agreed begrudgingly so. We found her hiding under the big trash bin. She was soaked, cold, and scared. We brought her home and introduced her to our other cat. They got along well and she became my child’s heart cat, and mine too. They grew up together. She sleeps with me under the covers in the crook of my belly, often in my arms like a teddy.

Miya is a healer, she has spent the entirety of her life being this for myself and our eldest, Riley. She is very special to us and our family.

Like many people these days, we are experiencing great financial difficulties and have gone through all our savings over the last few years. Our Miya is a senior cat, although she’s been healthy her entire life as we’ve mostly fed a species appropriate diet and have forgone on any vaccines besides what both our cats needed to travel from Bulgaria to the UK when we moved here to Swindon. She, being a senior, has had some health issues that have recently come up. She was recently diagnosed with early stage 2, kidney disease. This disease requires much management with regular checkups and bloods drawn. We want to give her the best possible chance of getting better and need financial help to do so. We are barely surviving this difficult financial crisis ourselves.

Our vet has suggested we do an ultrasound to see exactly what might be causing Miya’s current health issues, but atm we’re focused on the basics, with an upcoming kidney blood panel and urine sample. We are at the beginning of our challenges, this costs £250.00. It is a BIG ask, but if anyone can donate anything to help us help Miya get the medical care she needs we would be very grateful.
