UPDATE: Sadly, yesterday, June 18th, my Dad passed away. I will share info on the services once everything is arranged. In the meantime, we are still trying to raise enough money to allow us a proper goodbye. Every dollar helps
UPDATE: After a month and a half in the hospital, Dad was finally transferred to a beautiful nursing home under hospice care. He's much more comfortable and getting the rest he needs.
For the last several weeks, my Dad, Basil Anthony "Tony" Tedesco, known as Dody to those closest to him, has been in the hospital, fighting through liver failure and dementia. He is now under the care of hospice. Today, respecting his wishes, we made the heartbreaking decision to stop the medications by which he has been kept stable. His doctors told us that once they are stopped, the end will likely come relatively quickly.
My Dad told me he's tired, that he's not scared, and that he's ready to go be with his brothers.
We are spending these days holding onto him, surrounding him with love, and trying to prepare ourselves for what we know is coming. As much as we wish we could slow everything down, we are doing everything we can to make sure he is honored with love, respect, and dignity.
Unfortunately, there is no life insurance policy in place to cover funeral costs.
My brother, my children, and I want to say goodbye to him the right way, for the man he worked so hard to become.
My Dad spent much of his life battling addiction, but achieved six and a half years of sobriety. He fought for that every day. Even though the physical damage to his liver could not be undone, his spirit — who he became during that time — is what we will always hold onto.
During his sobriety, he focused on being the best father, grandfather, and man he could be. His four grandchildren love him—their Papa—deeply.
Through everything, my Dad found a way to make a difference. He is always willing to offer a listening ear, guidance, or encouragement to others walking their own hard roads. His kindness, his resilience, and his belief in second chances are the legacy he will leave with all of us.
Any donations will go directly toward service arrangement costs. If you are unable to contribute financially, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean more than I can ever fully express.
Thank you for helping us give my Dad the goodbye he deserves, and for standing with us in the love we are trying so hard to show him now.
