Hello, my name is Esther Kogan, and I have been working closely with the Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation (CWMF) for the past two decades. The CWMF was founded by Drs. Anne and George Mungai as a memorial tribute to their second daughter Caroline, who believed that every child should be given an opportunity to succeed.
The CWMF provides rescue, healthcare, food, clothing, shelter, education, and developmental support for orphans and vulnerable children. The first CWMF orphanage home opened on January 10, 2005, in Wangige, Kenya, on a 3½ -acre property with a four-bedroom house donated by the Mungai family.
Since then, the donated land has been developed into a Nursery through grade 8 school with academic and residential facilities for the orphaned children here. The Caroline School is the educational manifestation of Caroline's dream. It is a place where children can learn, grow, and come into their own as students and gain agency over their futures.
The Caroline School is committed to providing children with rich experiences, promoting cognitive, social, and emotional development, and ensuring students have a solid foundation needed for lifelong learning. The school has a student-centered approach to learning that is focused on each student's needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles. The Caroline School perfectly balances education, fun, professionalism, and kindness. The Caroline School offers a government-accredited primary school curriculum (CBC).
As of January 2023, The Ministry of Education mandates that schools in Kenya build and equip an art studio and a science lab for all children.
While this baseline educational necessity is exciting, the cost of doing so is substantial, and the current school needs help to afford to implement these new installations. We want to make sure The Caroline School can rely on a budget available to install both educational spaces and further gift the children who learn and live here the opportunities to grow and succeed. Any amount you can contribute will be appreciated and applied to the cost of these additions.
Prior to the CWMF, these bright, promising children have no support in their lives, their health, and in their future. Many come from impoverished homes, have deceased parents and relatives, and to no fault of their own, end up in these heart-breaking and tragic circumstances.
For many, getting a second chance at life through Caroline Home and The Caroline School is truly a blessing and catalyst in their lives. Many have gone on to graduate, pursue further education and career prospects, and live brilliant and inspiring lives. Gaining access to education is a precious gift; being educated in updated and mandated academic spaces could be the difference maker for life. Please help us implement this art studio and lab for the children studying and staying here. It would be heartbreaking for the school to close because it could not meet the educational standards required by the Ministry of Education.
