Hit & Run Accident, Trauma to Recovery
Donation protected
My sister Star Del Castillo has been put into a crucial condition in a good deed gone bad situation. Star was in a traumatic hit and run accident while in the middle of dropping off a food donation in southern California.
Star comes from a family that values being of service to others, our father runs a food distribution ministry in Mexico and I work at a food bank in Washington. Star continues the family tradition of helping others, even in times where she herself is struggling, she has always prioritized service to others.
This past week during a usual grocery and care package drop-off at a homeless camp, a vehicle veered off the road in an attempt to illegally pass another vehicle. The other vehicle did not reverse their vehicle, but instead kept crushing her. My sister was crushed between her own vehicle and the driver's vehicle all while her children witnessed screaming and crying from within the vehicle. The vehicle that hit Star didn’t stop to check on her wellbeing, but then drove off. Leaving her with two injured legs, one broken kneecap and the other knee dislocated, one broken clavicle, shoulder dislocated, lower back dislocated, brain injury, 16 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, bleeding lungs, torn vital arteries, torn meniscus and ACL, internal bleeding, hernia, and numerous injuries. Resulting in 3 immediate surgeries and +3 more surgeries in the near future.
We are so thankful there were bystanders who called 911 and got an ambulance to the scene. My sister's recovery is not going to be easy or quick. She has already had three surgeries since the incident last week, and remains hospitalized. She is a single mother and the sole provider for three kids. Star is not going to be able to work. We’re looking to raise the funds to cover rent, groceries, school, and support for our niece and nephews as they’re now experiencing horrific nightmares having witnessed their mother crushed, while helpless inside the vehicle. Stars children also endured minor injuries from the impact. Before this accident she had jobs lined up with a great possibility of landing a promising future for her and her kids, but because of this horrific accident there is so much uncertainty around the future.
There are a lot of basic needs we’re worried about covering while she's recovering from these injuries, and we’re asking for any spare dollars you might have in your heart to share. Please keep her in your prayers.
