Hello friends and family, I am starting this campaign in hopes of helping our family get through this last phase of long battle with breast cancer. As many of you know my beautiful wife was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly 2 years ago. During her 6 months of chemo, she was hospitalized for a combined total of approximately 40 days. She had 2 blood transfusions and lost all of her white blood cells. As a result from this still today her body is extremely weak and unable to fight infections. After a very short time to "recover" from chemo she went in for a bi lateral mastectomy. With the first surgery they had to put in expanders.(These are used to slowly stretch the skin) Expanders were required because of the amount of tissue removed during the surgery. 6 weeks later there was a second surgery to replace the Expanders with permanent implants. About 6 weeks later she was sent to start a daily radiation treatment for 36 days. 5 days after radiation was completed she noticed swelling in her right breast and devolved a fever, the doctor told us to go to the hospital immediately. Her right breast had swelled to over 3 times it's size and her fever was uncontrollable. At this point the surgeon decided to perform an emergency operation to remove the implant. The doctor determined the infection was caused by the severe blisters and sores that occurred during radiation. Three months later it was time to put in a new implant. Sadly we found out due to the massive amount of tissue damage to her skin from the radiation she would need yet another painful expander first. The worst news of all is that the surgery would be extremely painful and different that the first. Again due to all of the tissue damage she would have to have what is called a flap procedure. They make a 6-8 inch incision across the rib cage on the back and slice a large piece of muscle without totally severing it. Then they pull the attached muscle under the skin, under the armpit and attach it into the breast. They also take a large piece of tissue from the back to graft it onto the breast where they removed damaged skin. And 3 short weeks from now she will be going in for her next surgery(with at least 1 more to follow after this one). And that's where we are now. We have made it so far through so much and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are asking for help to keep things going at home as well as we can. The expense of this process has left us with a depleted saving account and maxed out credit cards. Not only are there so many extra expenses, since she is completely unable to work for 2 months after surgery and I have to take time off to take care of her. When my previous job ended up going out of business with no notice what so ever. I was lucky enough to find another job a few weeks later. But that few weeks definitely set us back even more. I would love nothing more than to provide her with an environment where she can heal and get well without the constant stress of feeling that she has to hurry up and get back to work to help with bills. Or lying saying she doesn't need my help (even when she does) so I won't feel bad about leaving her to go back to work. With the help of our family and friends we were able to make it through the first half of this extremely difficult situation, without that help we would have NEVER made it. We were never expecting to have so many complications and set backs, we definitely NEVER expected to be fight this battle this long. That's why we are Asking for help. Asking my friends and family for help is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. But I know this is ultimately going to help my wife's recovery battling this horrible disease. With that being said, any help would be greatly appreciated, unfortunately she has been told to properly heal she must take at least 6-8 weaks off. With her history of complications the doctor was very firm on this point. And for those of you who know my wife well, you know this won't be easy for her. Thank you all for your continued support. Sincerely Nic Anguenot PS. If you are able to, please share with anyone you think might be interested in helping.
