Updated on Sun, 8-4-24 @ 22:09 hrs. The following was just uploaded to the Pet Meadow memorial page.
Danny passed away on Sun 8-4-24 @ 09:30 hrs. from complications while recovering from his recent surgery. He was a seven-week-old male kitten who was estimated to be born on 6-12-24. On 7-26-24, we found him injured and abandoned at a local car wash in Pasadena, Texas. We think his injury occurred during the clean-up efforts from Hurricane Beryl.
Our veterinarian performed a radiograph and determined that his front right leg was severely fractured and dislocated. Also, the area around the fracture became infected and an abscess formed. Despite treatment with antibiotics the veterinarian recommended that the leg be amputated. However, the amputation couldn’t be performed there until 8-1-24.
When his health declined further, we took him to Gulf Coast Veterinarians Specialist in Houston, Texas. The surgery to amputate his leg was performed on 7-30-24. Since then, it has been a roller coaster ride for us all.
He battled pain from surgery, Anemia, low calorie food intake, low body temperature, and nasal blockages making it difficult for him to breath due to Calicivirus. He was administered four blood transfusions, antibiotics, pain meds, and IV fluids. Towards the end he was placed inside an incubator box and had an Esophagostomy tube inserted into the side of his neck. Despite these efforts, his little body just couldn’t catch up.
He had a strong will to live and fought harder than any heavyweight. He won the hearts of family, friends, and the wonderful staff who cared for him. He will be missed. Also, thank you to all who donated to his fund. Every little bit helped us.

Original post:
Meet Danny. He’s a six week old male kitten that was found injured and abandoned at a local Pasadena car wash 7-26-24. We think his injury occurred shortly after the recent storm and during the clean-up of storm debris.
Our veterinarian performed a radiograph and determined that his front right leg is severely fractured and dislocated. Also, the area around the fracture became infected and an abscess formed. Despite treatment with antibiotics the veterinarian recommended that the arm be amputated. Luckily, Danny tested negative for diseases and heart worms.
Sunday we had to take him to Gulf Coast Veterinarians Specialist because his breathing became labored, he became lethargic, and he wouldn’t produce any stool since being in our care.
Since being at Gulf Coast he’s been placed on a heating pad, provided with oxygen, had three blood transfusions, antibiotics, pain meds, wound cleanings, food, and IV fluids.
Currently, they’re waiting on his recent blood test results to return to see if he’s ready for surgery. Hopefully the surgery happens today.
He has a strong will to live. It is believed that he has a good chance of surviving surgery and living a long fulfilling life despite losing a limb.
All proceeds will go to the cost of Danny's exams, testing, treatment, surgery, recovery, and eventually his adoption. Every little bit will help us. Thank you!
