Meet Cookie, my wife's and I first Dog. We adopted her in 2019 from an Animal shelter in South Carolina. She was our only furbaby untill we adopted Sadie in 2022 from a foster home. Cookie is deathly scared of fireworks and thunder and Sadie could care less, so she is Cookies therapy Dog. They have been sisters from another mother ever since. We moved to Colorado in February of 2024 and they have been LOVING the snow and new outdoors. Cookie being the older sister and more curious one, while Sadie is ears up looking for wildlife and good grass to munch on.
Unfortunately in mid April, Cookie accidentally stumbled apon something we don't have in South Carolina.... rattlesnakes. A split second before we heard the warning sound of the rattlesnake, Cookie yelped, jumped and ran away. The snake bit her right on her snout about a quarter inch from her right eye. Of course it was a Sunday afternoon so the only Vets open with anti venom were emergency animal hospitals. To add insult to injury, Cookie is TERRIFIED of the Vet and has to be sedated to even do normal blood work. After visiting two different hospitals, the second had to keep her for the following 2 nights under extensive care and sedation. She received multiple blood transfusions and 3 anti venom virals. She had severe bruising and swelling all around her eyes and jaw. At peak her right eye was swollen shut and she was unable to swallow.
On the following Tuesday she was discharged from the Animal hospital but we had to take her to a Veterinarian hospital in Fort Collins that has a hyperbaric chamber for animals. Thankfully that drastically decreased the swelling and recovery time. Cookie finally made it home and was able to rest and was happy to be smothered in love and affection.
We are now left with the financial aftermath of helping Cookie survive a rattlesnake bite. A 3 day, 2 night visit to the hospital for Animals, a drive to Fort Collins for the hyperbaric chamber, and a plethora of pains medication for Cookie equats to roughly $6,200. If you feel especially generous, we sincerely appreciate any and all help with this massive unexpected (but entirely necessary) bill to save Cookies life. Every cent that is raised will go to pay for her bill. If we're fortunate to have reached our $6,200 goal, anything additional will be donated to our local Animal Shelter. Thank you!
