We need your help now. Every dollar we receive goes to caring for our needy cats and dogs. These generous donations come from cat and dog lovers like you.
With the skyrocketing prices for supplies, medicines, microchips, vaccines, food, veterinary care and housing, we are struggling. Our medical supplies are exhausted, and we are just halfway through the year. Please help if you can.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any donation you can offer. These animals need our help, and we need yours. We remain a volunteer-based organization. All our board members volunteer for many hours daily.
If a monetary donation is not possible, please consider volunteering a few hours a week sharing your time and talent. Your consideration and generosity know no bounds. We would be so thankful and so would our furry friends.
As you may know, BARKS cares for animals that are less likely to be adopted because of medical needs or behavioral issues and provides help for them in an appropriate environment. We help regularly with hoarding situations and accept older cats when the pet parent no longer can care for a beloved pet or goes into a facility that does not allow pets.
Here are just a few of the stories of the cats and dogs currently in our care.
Baby Girl: 4 months old female Boxer Collie Mix
Baby Girl was rescued from an eviction situation where she would have been euthanized Her living situation and care appeared to be less than adequate. She required vaccines, spaying, and more medical care to ensure she is healthy. She is an adorable, sweet puppy who was quiet, confused, and withdrawn. With extra attention and individual time spent with her, Baby Girl is now a more outgoing happy little girl.
Benjamin: 7-year-old male Terrier Mix
Benjamin is a sweet older dog whose owner had passed away. He needed a dental and a gingival mass removal. He is a loving, sweet, and outgoing boy. He is now in his loving forever home. His entire medical needs were taken care of by BARKS prior to his adoption. We are so glad we were there to be able to give Benjamin a healthy, happy life in his golden years.
Munchkin: 6-year-old male Grey Tabby
Munchkin was rescued after living in a tiny, dingy shed with one small window for 5 years. He was fed with a few other cats in a very poor environment. He required vaccines, dental surgery resulting in 14 extractions, and suffered from a severe parasitic infestation that he is currently receiving a costly custom prepared prescription medication for an extended time. He is making great progress every day and feeling and acting like a new cat. More bloodwork will be required to ensure complete recovery.
Sophie: 9-year-old female white and beige Siamese mix
Sophie was rescued from a home where she had lived for 9 years since a kitten. She was underweight and in poor physical condition. She was lethargic, had no appetite, and needed prompt medical attention. After an exam and extensive bloodwork, she was diagnosed with severe hyperthyroidism and will be on prescription medication for the remainder of her life. With her medication, she is making good progress both physically and socially. She is a beautiful Senior lady.
Tork: 11-year-old male Orange Tabby
Tork was surrendered to BARKS in his Senior years at the age of 11. He needed a medical evaluation after not having had an exam in many years. Due to his age, an exam and a senior blood panel blood test was performed to evaluate his health. The results revealed Tork had hyperthyroidism and will be on daily medication for the remainder of his life. He is healthy and doing well on his medicine and is a sweet, loving boy who is very social and loves attention, pats, and brushing.
Mr. Cat: 5-year-old male Russian Blue Mix
Mr. Cat was rescued under emergency circumstances. He had been taken to a veterinarian hospital in critical condition requiring immediate surgery at a cost of thousands of dollars which the owner could not afford. Euthanasia was being considered. BARKS intervened and had the cat transferred to our supervising veterinarian hospital for emergency surgery to remove a total urinary blockage due to 5 penial stones and 14 stones in his bladder. The surgery was successful but required a lengthy recovery. He has made a full recovery but requires costly complete urinary care prescription canned and dry food for the rest of his life.
Olaf: One of a bonded female pair of white blue eyed kittens
Olaf and her sister Blanca were rescued from hoarding situation. Olaf was the smallest and weakest of the two. Blanca was in good physical condition. Olaf began to lose weight, had little or no appetite, and became lethargic. After a vet appointment, Olaf was diagnosed with a parasitic infection and given fluids, a B-12 injection, prescribed probiotics and a very strong parasitic medication. She is improving and becoming stronger each day. Her sister has comforted her and watches over her. Both of them soon be going to their forever home.
Kittens
When kittens are surrendered to BARKS we ensure that every kitten is examined, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and socialized before being adopted. Adoption fees offset some of these costs. However, kittens surrendered to a shelter are most often undernourished and need some medical treatment due to the environment in which they were found generating additional expensive veterinary bills. The health and medical care of each and every kitten in BARKS’ care is a top priority as it is with every animal at BARKS.

It is because of people like you that we can continue our mission of rescuing, caring for and finding homes for animals in need. During 2025, we homed 375 animals and offered hundreds of Low Cost spay neuter certificates to help control the over population of cats.
Many of the animals that come to us need extensive medical care prior to adoption. Again, without your generous support, we would not be able to provide this care and find homes for these precious animals. Thank you for any help you can give.
