There is no pain greater than the loss of a loved one, especially when that loved one comprised one half of the duo who has adopted, sacrificed for, and given you a chance at life.
Thus is the situation that my sister and I have found ourselves in. My father, Michael passed away in the hospital on Wednesday, July 28th 2021, just 4 days after his 78th birthday. In some ways it is bittersweet being that in his passing he has reunited with our mother who died in 2008, and his only sibling, his older sister who died in the beginning of the year.
My dad was a man whose pride and independence were things that he clung to up until the very end. When I moved back to Florida nearly a year ago he was doing dialysis 3 times a week, amidst a steady agenda of doctors visits and a fight to regain his health, a fight that ultimately he lost but not without a valiant effort.
He was routine oriented and asked for very little from life, so I feel it is necessary to honor his life and memory by providing him with those things that accommodate his transition into the afterlife as comfortably as possible.
My father did not leave a will and a life insurance policy has yet to be discovered.
I do know that he had a good percentage of his finances tied into secured investments, investments I will ultimately become the recipient of.
Right now, with time being of the essence, I have a funeral to plan. He will be buried just outside of Chicago, beside my mother in Shalom Memorial Park, a cemetery that many of our family members and friends are buried in. I already have everything arranged, and have even received the death certificates which are needed to make anything happen.
I do not enjoy asking for help of any kind, especially when it comes to matters of money, but my father has left lots of loose ends that need to be addressed.
This funeral needs to happen, my sister, her sons and myself need to travel in order for it to take place.
If ever there has been a time that I need your support, that time is now.
I can assure you that once the funeral has taken place I will better be able to go through and situate a life that currently holds an uncertain future for my pup and I. At that point I should also be able to repay those of you who have contributed to my family's needs as we desperately have to get this handled as quickly as possible.
This Go Fund Me is to be utilized in assisting my sister, her two sons and myself with all matters funeral related. Costs for the casket, transporting him from Florida to Illinois, both funeral homes involved, travel expenses. Even gasoline for our vehicles, groceries for the house standard living expenses such as utilities and other regularly occurring bills that I haven't had time to work and handle at present as I arrange the closure to this tragic chapter of life.
My father had many catch phrases and life lessons that he used or shared with those who knew him. He was a funny man who found happiness in seeing the smiles of others, smiles he so effortlessly brought about.
One of his favorite replies when asked how he was doing was -
"EVERY DAY IS A GIFT."
And that it is. It all boils down to perspective.
I can't express how much your generosity means to my family and to him especially, as we grieve yet another vacant seat within our hearts.
