On September 4th, 2020, the love of my lifetime lost her 4+ year battle to breast cancer.
Anuka was brave to the end, shielding her mother and I from much of the pain she was going through: both physically and financially. Through the initial surgery to remove the lump in her breast, to fighting and recovering from a brain tumor as a result of the initial cancer, and finally losing to the cancer as it spread to her lungs, she quietly shouldered the burden of her fight. She hid the true pain she was suffering, as well as the immense pressure of paying for bills her health insurance didn't cover.
Now, as her mother and I are sifting through her belongings, we've discovered exactly how much she was bravely struggling to deal with the costs of her battle… and it was more than we ever suspected. Agonizingly, with her passing, we also have the added cost of her final hospital stay and cremation.
Her wish was for our little family of three to return home one day to live out the rest of our lives in Hawaii where we first met. Sadly, the best that I can do for her is bring her ashes home and scatter them in her favorite place on earth. Thank you for any donation you are able to give to help cover her final outstanding expenses so that we will be able to lay her to rest in the place that brought her the most joy.
Thank you.
