Please Help Us Be By Matt's Side During His Cancer Battle
Donation protected

Hi my name is Bec, please bare with me while I tell you our story. My otherhalf Matt (47yo) and I are the very proud parents of 4 children aged 21, 20, 18 and 17yo. When Matt was a teen he was diagnosed with Scheuermann's disease, and was told if he isn't in a wheelchair by the age of 25yo he would have bad arthritis. A little over a year & a half ago Matt had a fall that left him with broken ribs, Matt being a typical man not wanting to feel like he can't handle pain didn't seek any help. It has taken this whole time for his ribs to heal and he still gets pain most days. While his ribs were trying to heal one day he had a sore lower back so I rubbed deep heat into it after a few days his pain got worse and worse & started to travel to his hips, legs and feet. Matt again didn't seek help until late August this year (the whole time we had been trying to talk him into seeking help). By this time Matt could barely walk without being in excruciating pain so me not having a licence, taxied it to the drs. He explained to the dr when it all started and everything that's gone on, the dr wanted him to go for xrays and blood tests but he needed to fast so he came home. At that time my daughter (21yo) and I were the only ones with an income (as I was my daughters full-time caregiver) and our boys were trying to get on a payment, Matt wasn't working or on benefits as he don't have enough ID to apply for a payment. So only having the 2 incomes we could only afford to go to the drs once a week and just about every week Matt had forgotten to fast. September rolled around Matt had an awesome fathers day and early birthday. Then the morning of September 14th rolled around and Matt and myself woke up to every parents worst nightmare when we found our beautiful 21yo daughter Britany-Anne had lost her epilepsy battle during the night. We didn't have the kind of money to give her a beautiful send off but with the help of the universe we were able to give her a send off. The day after Brits send off was her dads birthday. Now by this time myself and 2/3 boys were on payments so 3 payments (which centrelink were still paying me the carer pension). December 21st centrelink cut me and my 2 boys off payments (me just not thinking thought they'd automatically transfer me to jobseeker but they didn't I had to reapply which I'm still waiting on approval for) (my boys payments are based off what I earn and because I am not earning anything at the moment they won't pay them). So we have no payments and have been relying on the kindness of our friends and family to get us through. By now it's December 30th and Matt had a fall putting him in more pain and he asked me to call for an ambulance because the pain was unbearable. Ambulance came and after giving Matt 4 shots of pain relief they were able to help him to eventually get to the stretcher and load him into the ambulance and took him to hospital. December 31 (the last day of 2024) I was getting myself ready to go see Matt when he called, said he has a diagnosis but that can wait until I'm home please find me a way home. We got him a ride home and he came in sat down and told us his diagnosis. My heart shattered again when I heard Matt say the words spinal cancer. Apparently drs advised him to stay but he wouldn't have it so 1 dr made him a deal he can come home until the 2nd then he is to go back and have surgery to remove the cancer. Tomorrow is the 2nd and we have no way to go back and forth to be by his side while he recovers for however long he will be in hospital and are also in no way able to pay the bills that are rolling in.
We wish we weren't in this situation and are struggling to come up with the funds for anything. Any donations big or small will help ease the pressure we are under.
Funds raised will be used to get us back and forth to hospital appointments, food and bills coming in.
We are very thankful for your support during this hard time, any and all donations are very much appreciated.
Thank you for listening to our story and sorry it is so long..
