Over the ten years of our existence as a fencing club, we had 700 athletes learn fencing with us. Some 80 are there at any given moment. We always strived to have anyone who came walk out with a smile on their face. We understood that parents deal with much and we never asked for anything but the smile. We gathered enough equipment and promised that everyone can use club's gear for as long as they want, without charge, and with no limit. Last night, that all changed...
After evening class at one of our remote locations, getting home deep in the night, we were too tired deal with the equipment, so we just locked the car, and went to sleep. At 3:20 AM, two guys with a pickup truck broke into our, and several other cars, and cleaned us out. Our old and torn duffel bag with 26 epees, large plastic tub with 14 body cords, 15 chest plates, 20 fencing gloves, 9 jackets and plastrons, 9 masks, and 4 complete mobile strip sets (we teach remote classes in community centers, so 4 scoring machines, 4 bungee cords, 8 fencing floor cords, power supplies and extension cords)... all gone... even Zoran's sweaty shirt and socks, and his coach vest, sleeve, leg protector, mask, and glove... all gone... Zoran's epee, that he gives lessons with... This is is what we used to earn our living with. The police report lists a bit over $10,000 worth of damage. It is hard to hear that that's all you were worth when you got cleaned out.
We will get up and will walk tall; but, at the moment, even trying hurts. If you want to help us, please do. Everyone who ever came to our trainings knows that you are welcome the moment you want to fence with us, we love having anyone for a visit, and we never charged a visitor a dime. We now desperately need help to build our mobile scoring systems back - our scoring machines, bungee-systems, and floor cords - so we can teach classes and pay rent next month. We will build all the components ourselves, but we still need to buy parts - epee blades and guards, plugs, wire, sockets, bungee, clips... If you have any that you don't need, or if you can help with donation so we can buy some, please do. If you want to come by and inspire with your sport spirit, even better. Our arms are spread, but everything you see in our photos, even the $25 plastic hanger, and the plastic tub, is gone...
