Hello, my name is Bella, and I’m raising money to be able to afford my dad’s life-saving medical treatment and emergency surgery. On Christmas, my dad began feeling ill. He fought for two weeks until Monday afternoon when he could no longer bear it. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and even though we knew we couldn’t afford it, he was unable to walk and could barely stand up which we recently learned was the result of Artrial Fibrillation.

Upon arriving at the hospital, doctors discovered that his condition was far more serious than anyone could have imagined. A CT scan revealed pneumoperitoneum—air in the abdominal cavity—indicating a life-threatening issue. He was immediately taken into emergency surgery, where they found a ruptured diverticulum. To save his life, he had to undergo an extensive procedure, including an exploratory laparotomy (ex-lap) and a sigmoid colectomy with a colostomy—where they attach a bag to the intestine through the stomach. During this procedure, he went into septic shock, and his blood pressure bottomed out, leaving him in the ICU for the foreseeable future.

He will need extensive treatment and care and will have to undergo more surgeries to connect his intestines. Unfortunately, he has no immediate family with him besides me, a 17-year-old, and my two siblings, ages 12 and 15. The cost of the ambulance, emergency surgery, antibiotics, pain meds, the weeks he will need to spend in the hospital, future surgeries, and home care will cost our family tens of thousands of dollars which we do not have.
