Three years ago, I was blessed to bring home my dream horse—2 Socks, a shiny penny of a chestnut Thoroughbred with a heart full of spirit. Though he wasn’t fast enough for the races, he’s always been a champion in my eyes. Life, however, has taken some unexpected turns. Between losing my job, my marriage, and now preparing for surgery that will leave me in a cast for months, I simply don’t have the time or ability to care for 2 Socks the way he deserves.

I have a rare and precious opportunity to send him to North Carolina to live with one of my dearest friends—a kind, experienced horse trainer who also happens to be the pastor who led my mom’s celebration of life. She has six acres of green pastures, company from other geldings, and a heart full of love and grit.
