Hi,
My name is Kirsty and I am mum to Bear.
Bear Is a 6 year Old English Mastiff rescue dog who came to me at 23 months old after being left at the kennels by her current owners!
It has taken this long to get Bear settled and at ease in her surroundings.
Since losing my partner Bear is my constant companion. She doesn't go out or go to have food without me being with her.
Bear has been in good health throughout the time I have had her until about 3 weeks ago.
Bear started limping quite suddenly. It seems from digging a hole in the garden.
She has been to the vet twice for anti inflammatory/pain relief medication. This incurred a bill of £300 which I have already paid.
Bears leg improved slightly over the first week. But, has deteriorated over the last 10 days and she is now hardly able to walk.
The vet wants £1,700 to sedate Bear, do X Ray's and take samples from the swelling on Bears leg. They have said that if I can pay half of this up front that they will allow me to pay the rest over several months.
This is not a situation where I just did not bother to get pet insurance. I did a Debt Relief Order shortly after rescuing Bear and this meant that I wasnt eligible for any insurance for Bear.
I'm now in a situation where Bear is in pain and my only option would be to give Bear up to rescue. The other unthinkable option offered is to put to sleep. This would be devastating emotionally for myself and Bear.
Please can anyone help!
