Helping Tonia fight kidney cancer

Hi everyone! This is Christina, Tonia’s sister. I am trying to raise funds for my sister, who is a mom to two awesome kids.

On Memorial Day 2022, Tonia was eating lunch with her family when suddenly her heart was racing. Pulse Ox showed her heart rate was 143 just sitting there. Knowing this was not right, she called her doctor who said to go to the ER. At the hospital, a chest CT scan was done to check for a pulmonary embolism (which could have been a cause of the high heart rate) All was ok, except the radiologist said that he caught the top of the left kidney, and the border looked a little odd. Probably nothing, but maybe get it checked.

            A few days later, she followed up and got a kidney scan. To everyone’s surprise, there was a 7cm mass right in the middle of the Kidney. After many opinions, it was decided the Kidney had to go. On July 11th, Tonia’s left kidney was entirely removed. As everyone prayed for it to come back benign, this was not the case. The report came back as Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma, Stage 3 Grade 4 Rhabdoid, which is the most aggressive cancer one can have.

            Along with this crazy diagnosis, Tonia was unfortunate to lose her job 2 weeks prior. No job equals no health insurance. The family now needs to pay over $1500 a month just to cover Tonia’s health care, and they are in the process of trying to find a way to cover the rest of the family.

            On September 1st, Tonia starts treatment, and has to constantly travel into Manhattan to receive the best care. All this coupled with trying to maintain a normal life for her two children age 9 and 12 .

            This Go Fund Me is set up to help ease the financial burden on the family at this time. The money will be used towards medical, travel, household bills, food, and making sure the kids can continue activities as much as they can.
