Please help to support Britta’s fight to recovery.

On Monday night, Britta was hospitalized at UW Vet for a severe bowel obstruction. After extensive tests, X-rays, and an ultrasound, vets determined that surgery was the only option. What was expected to be a simple 1-2 hour procedure turned into a grueling 3.5-hour operation. Her stomach was packed with foreign objects (we still don’t know what they were), and a foot and a half of her small intestine was completely blocked. Thankfully, her intestine didn’t need to be removed, and the surgical team worked tirelessly to save her.

We thought she was on the road to recovery, but just days later, everything took a devastating turn. Britta developed a serious post-surgical infection, and we had to rush her back to UW. She had fever, swelling, and an open, infected incision. Tests showed bacteria in her wound and fluid buildup in her abdomen, raising major concerns. The vets immediately started IV fluids, antibiotics, nausea meds, and pain management. Under sedation, her staples were removed, her wound was cleaned, and a bandage was placed to protect her incision.

Now, Britta remains hospitalized and fighting every day. She’s undergoing daily bandage changes under sedation, and while imaging shows slow improvement, she still isn’t out of danger. The good news? She’s showing small but important signs of progress—she’s starting to eat again (baby food is her favorite right now!) and is slowly being weaned off her IVs. If all goes well, her incision may be stable enough to be closed again later this week.

Vet bills are piling up fast, and we can’t do this alone. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Britta’s medical care and give her the chance to fully recover. If you can’t donate, please share—every bit of support makes a difference or even a prayer that’s she continues on her road to recovery.

Britta has a long road ahead, but if there’s one thing we know—it’s that she’s a fighter. She’s pushing through, and her two-year-old best friend is waiting for her to come home. They need each other, and we need your help to make it happen. Thank you for believing in Britta and helping us bring her home where she belongs.
