My name is Aysha Sayani-Mulji and I’m the daughter of Naz Sayani and Dr. Amin Mulji. I’m a survivor of domestic violence at the hands of my father, Dr. Mulji. Unfortunately, I have experienced
financial, mental/emotional, physical, and verbal abuse. I had different health issues as I was growing up and I didn’t receive any sympathy from my father, even though he’s a medical doctor who went to medical school at McMaster University.
I was constantly witnessing extreme violence and abuse in the marital home, and it traumatized me. I had to call the police on some occasions. I heard multiple death threats made against my mother, maternal grandmother, myself, and my brothers. The death threats towards my mother escalated around 2016, and I encouraged my mother to go to the police. I attended the police station with her and my father was charged and arrested. There was a criminal court proceeding and the prosecution made a plea deal with the defense. My father received a suspended sentence plus two years of probation in 2022. I made a victim impact statement to support my mother in criminal court and so did my younger brother. Shortly thereafter, my father started a lawsuit against the children. My father had purchased a townhouse that was to be a gift for the children and a trust agreement was drafted with a lawyer. In the lawsuit, my father stated that he wanted the children to pay back all of the expenses he had incurred for the townhouse, including mortgage payments and the down payment. This totalled about $300,000. He also stopped making all payments for the house, and I was at risk of foreclosure and losing my housing. My father has not been successful in the courts up until this point, but it’s been a lengthy and costly process as he has continued to bring frivolous motions, including against the children. My father was also reprimanded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons for failing to disclose his charges.
My paternal uncle, Bilfiz Mulji, who’s a pharmacist, has been present to support my father at almost every court appearance, and has threatened things will get “ugly”. My mother asked Bilfiz to stop the abuse of his brother’s children as he has been involved in the court proceedings. He texted my mother to F off. My father’s family has continued to support my father.
Sadly, my maternal aunt, Dr. Eshrat Sayani, a family doctor, and my maternal uncle, Aziz Sayani, are also supporting my father instead of their own sister. Aziz still does my father’s accounting. My maternal aunt and uncle have not contacted me to help or ask about my well-being. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, depression, and anxious distress due to all of the trauma I have experienced.
Towards the end of 2015, while I was in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Toronto, I experienced major complications from a wisdom tooth removal surgery. Some of those complications included nerve damage and damage to my jaws. My jaw alignment for both jaws was affected and I have misaligned bones in my shoulders, neck, face, and head. I live with chronic pain on a daily basis and cannot work due to my physical disabilities. I also have serious digestive problems that required surgeries in 2011. It is very difficult for me to survive, and my mother’s funds have been depleted due to the court proceedings. My younger brother is so traumatized that he has developed severe mental health struggles, including a suicide attempt in 2024. My mother has to watch him 24/7. This past winter, I experienced a slip and fall on the ice and injured my ankle. I currently require PSW support and assistive devices, such as a walker and bath chair, so that I can manage my daily tasks.
My only source of income at this time is Ontario Works, and it is very difficult for me to manage. I have reapplied for the Ontario Disability Support Program and am awaiting a decision. I currently cannot afford the costs for my living expenses, food, medical treatments, equipment, and so on. The medical treatments I require at this time are specialized chiropractic treatment and dental treatments. The medical equipment I currently require also needs to be funded. In addition, I need to have a full-time live-in helper stay with me for my health and safety.
I am asking for the public’s help to please assist me with my recovery. If you can please consider helping me, I’d very much appreciate it. Every donation will make a difference.
Thank you.
