In April 2015 Nepal suffered a devastating earthquake causing serious damage to buildings and loss of life. Many rural school buildings were affected. Unfortunately some of these schools have not yet received any funding to repair the buildings so that the children can learn in a safe environment. Bombahadur Basic School in Ghalel, Kaski is one of these schools.

The back wall of the school is pulling away from the main building causing the walls to split and collapse. The roof, doors and windows are no longer safe as the whole building is unstable. There have been makeshift attempts to fill the huge cracks in the walls but these are temporary and ineffective. As a result the classrooms are not weatherproof. The students often learn outside in the courtyard rather than in the safety of a classroom. The classrooms are damp, dirty and noisy as there is no insulating ceiling under the metal roof panels.

The school currently has 77 students aged from 4 - 14 years of age. The school is an important focus for the village community as they have no alternative. Despite the fact that about 7,000 schools in rural areas were rebuilt it is the poorest communities that have struggled to continue educating the local children in unsuitable buildings. Ghalel is one of these villages.

Please donate, raise some funds by whatever skills you have - baking, running, swimming .... and share this fundraiser so that we can change the learning environment for these children.

We at Teach Nepal Project have experience renovating schools in the area since 2015. We have had contact with Bombahadur School for over 7 years now.
