Please Help Adam to get his Medicine

Hello my name is Viv and I am raising money to help a dear friend Kerry, who currently lives in South Africa. I have known and been close to her and her family for over 30 years. Kerry and her family are experiencing enormous financial hardship after she was recently retrenched from work.

Kerry is a single mother who cares for her grown son Adam.

Adam suffers from ADHD, Autism, Tourette’s Syndrome, with accompanying tics and eye rolls that have caused muscle damage and impaired vision, together with multiple comorbitie, including intellectual disability. These comorbities have prevented Adam from being able to work. In addition to thi, Kerry also cares for her 78 year old mother Denise who has advancing Parkinson’s with increasing memory loss and impaired mobility. Denise’s balance is greatly impaired leaving her unable to walk.

Kerry has been looking for work for many months. The hard reality is that she is a White Jewish female in South Africa which puts her in an unenviable and increasingly difficult position. She physically cares for Denise daily as well as Adam and the anxiety that has taken hold of this family as a whole has brought it to its knees. It’s a huge challenge for them to meet their monthly rent payments and to buy for Adam’s and Denise’s medication, which they desperately need.

This family has always helped others literally giving the clothes off their backs when others have needed help. Life has not been kind to Denise. Her sister Annette who she was very close to was murdered in a brutal attack during a home robbery in South Africa many years ago.

To add insult to injury, South Africa sadly and according to the doctors, does not recognize Tourettes Syndrome and there appears no trials on the horizon in South Africa for many years to come. Thus, the medication needed for Adam is being supplemented with other medications to try create a control tablet for the tics, however, this has caused other major side effects and can no longer be used to help.

As a result, not being one to let adversity cripple her, Kerry has put the wheels in motion to make Aliyah (immigration) to Israel where drug trials are happening and thus the correct medication is available. In addition, Israel is able to cater for and has facilities for those intellectually impaired like Adam. For this reason, the Aliyah process has become an urgent life sustaining exercise. In addition, there is a greater likelihood of Kerry getting work there.

However,all this will take time and there are financial needs for visas and certificates.

Any money raised would be used for essential medicines, to pay rent, and to allow this family to continue to make plans to emigrate for the desperate help that they need.
