Hello,
My name is Vincent, and I'm a married father of four children. I am trying to raise funds for my youngest daughter's (Danielle) leukemia treatment. On March 9, 2022, my life, as well as my entire family, was changed forever. My daughter had been running a low-grade fever for about 3-4 days accompanied by a minor cough. My wife and I figured it was some virus. On the 5th day, we decided to bring her to the E.R. to find out about the fever. This is when we received the news that something was off with her blood work and they transported her by ambulance to New Orleans Children's Hospital. After about 24hrs it was confirmed and she was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia, Early T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We were told that if we didn't start chemotherapy right away that she wouldn't make it 2 weeks.
For some reason, we have a tendency to think that it could never be "my" child. These sad stories always affect other people's families, not mine. But, as time seemed to stand still at that moment I slowly realized it was ME now. Now my child's life was on the line. By far, this is my toughest trial in life yet. You feel so helpless at this moment.
My wife and I have always been firmly against chemotherapy because of its toxicity. However, there it was we had to decide whether or not to allow this treatment for our youngest daughter.
May 5, 2022 - UPDATE
Since deciding to proceed with the chemotherapy, my daughter has encountered and endured multiple complications. As expected, her immunity was destroyed by the chemotherapy cocktails. She also had a disseminated fusarium (fungus) infection that tried to destroy her. However, after eight sinus (debridement) surgeries, she recovered from the dire threat this infestation posed. She continues to take an antifungal drug to control any remaining fungal threats.
May 17, 2022 - UPDATE
Danielle failed to achieve a negative MRD test (.23). So, now we proceed to consolidation chemotherapy.
June 10, 2022 - UPDATE
We just received news that we can finally go home. I think it's been around 90 days or so since we've been at the hospital. This is a blessing to be able to go home and get her into a happy, loving, more normal environment for healing. Consolidation chemotherapy starts in two weeks.
July 4, 2022 - UPDATE
Danielle started chemotherapy a few days ago and is now running a fever. Consolidation chemotherapy is a very intense process. She has very little natural defense against pathogens due to the chemotherapy destroying her healthy cells. Back to the hospital, we go. Everything was negative, so they call it neutropenic fever. Today, she will receive an immune booster to help raise her white blood cells and neutrophils.
July 6, 2022 - UPDATE
Fever has gone......going home. Thank God
July 25, 2022 - Current (Today) UPDATE
Danielle has been having some significant peripheral neuropathy. They are admitting her tonight.
They administered morphine for her neuropathy. After two days the neuropathy has subsided. However, now she is having other issues. Long story short, she has chemo-induced pancreatitis. :( Now she is being placed in ICU. This is one of the main reasons I do not like chemotherapy. It takes its toll on the body.

Since Danielle's diagnosis, I have been researching cancer. My wife and I decided that we NEED to find a functional/integrative oncologist to assist in her recovery from leukemia. My wife is an Army veteran (retired) so we have great insurance to cover most of the medical bills. There is still a lot of out-of-pocket expense as well. As a matter of fact, I received a letter from the hospital informing me that they've filed a claim with Blue Cross, but ultimately I am responsible for payment. The total for treatment from 3-9-22 to 7-7-22 was $2,296,176.45
Call me crazy, but perhaps this is why they haven't found a cure yet. That's a lot of money. Did you know that a hospital charges the insurance companies almost $800.00 for a bag of saline solution (salt water)? That is just insane.
It's been very difficult for me to successfully find a clinic or hospital that will treat pediatric cancer from a functional/integrated approach. The federal and state laws make it virtually impossible. And, insurance only pays for conventional western medicine treatment (CHEMO). Any and all non-traditional treatments will be an out-of-pocket expense. My goal is to get my daughter any proven treatments that will protect her body during chemotherapy. There is a place in the U.S. that has agreed to take her on as a patient, but only adjuvant care. We will need to fly back and forth from hospital to hospital (airfare). Any and all treatments from these doctors will require payment at the time of service.
Any unused monies will be donated to cancer research. Specifically, those that are researching non-traditional routes. Enough money has been being poured into cancer research without the necessary results. Statistically speaking, the overall survival percentages haven't really changed much since the 1950s. More people are getting cancer now, and more people are dying from it. This shouldn't be....
I will post the organizations that funds will be donated to after Danielle's treatment as soon as I settle upon at least 3 different research groups. It is important that they are kind of going down similar paths.
Just to summarize...any money donated to this fund will be used for the following and only the following:
1.) Functional Medicine Doctors
2.) Integrative Medicine Doctors
3.) Airfare
4.) Treatment protocols from the above doctors
5.) Overall bills that have piled up since March 2022.
6.) Out-of-pocket expenses due to the hospital that weren't covered by Blue Cross
I will provide updates to this post weekly from here on out. I would like to thank anyone who contributes to this fund from the bottom of my heart. Danielle, myself, and our entire family thank you. God bless you all!
