My name is Lynda Collicott and I am a friend of Chris Schoneman and want to want to help Chris and her dad during this time of emergency. As you all know, the unexpected does happen and it is a financial burden I want to take off their minds. The next paragraph is directly from Chris, Ronald's daughter who is currently staying with her dad at the hospital in Miami while he is recovering.
I'm Chris Schoneman, and I want to share my dad's, Ronald Schoneman's, story with you. As he approaches his 85th birthday on August 16th, our family is facing a challenging situation that we could use your support with.
On August 6, 2023, we traveled to Key West, FL to celebrate my niece's wedding reception and baby shower after flying into Ft. Lauderdale. Little did we know that this trip would take an unexpected turn.
Early on August 7th, my dad woke up and had a fall that resulted in a broken left hip and head injury. He courageously tried to manage the situation, but the severity of his injuries required urgent medical attention. After being rushed to Key West Hospital, it became clear that his condition was beyond their capabilities, and he had to be transferred via helicopter to Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
Navigating this ordeal has been emotionally taxing, and my inability to communicate effectively with medical staff due to language barriers has added to the stress. My dad and I are both Deaf, and no interpreters were provided within the first 48 hours. My dad is in surgery right now to remove blood clots, and to stop the brain bleeds, and to replace the femoral head and neck with a reconstruction prosthesis in his hip.
The recovery process is expected to be lengthy, and the medical team has advised against air travel due to potential risks. This situation has caused a financial strain due to missed work hours and unexpected expenses.
Your support would mean the world to us. Contributions will not only help alleviate the financial burden but also provide us with the means to focus on my dad's recovery without worrying about our basic needs. Your kindness and generosity would go a long way in aiding our family during this challenging time.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our situation, and any assistance or sharing of this fundraiser is immensely appreciated. Your support is a beacon of hope in our journey toward my dad's recovery.
Warm regards,
