Hello everyone,
- if you are reading this, my family and I thank you for taking the time to read about my father's battle. Last August my father Robert Michaloski went to the ER expressing he was having dizzy spouts and constantly feeling nauseous. With numerous CT scans and MRI’s, the doctors discovered a tumor located at the head of the pancreas. Since this discovery, We have been on an uphill battle trying to figure out whether or not it was cancer for over a year traveling as far as Weston and MD Anderson in Jacksonville to get some answers and find out if he was eligible to have surgery. Sadly with two opinions, we discovered the surgery would be too risky to do. We finally got some answers from MD Anderson and discovered my father has a neoplasm tumor that is the size of a grapefruit that has latched itself onto the top of his pancreas and wrapped itself around the hepatic nerve. The mass has been calcifying around his hepatic nerve restricting blood flow to all of his other organs, The right side of his liver has atrophied already and it’s only a matter of time before other organs start to follow. We were told that he does not have a life expectancy in September and that it’s just a matter of how much longer he can bear with the pain. We tried a nerve blocking procedure, we have tried changing his diet but as the months have passed by, his health has been drastically declining. Hospital stays have become more frequent for days and weeks at a time, his doctors fear because of the growth of the tumor over the last month that it has finally turned into pancreatic cancer. As of 12/20, my father has made a decision to not continue treatment as he is currently not eating, not able to hold foods or liquids down, constantly being in excruciating pain all of the time with no pain meds helping him, his quality of life is severely declining. We have decided as a family to place my father under hospice care so we can make sure he is not experiencing pain anymore and is comfortable. After speaking with the doctor at Hospice, they did inform me that my father is sadly in the beginning stages of death. This has become a very, very hard time for my family and currently, my family is struggling to stay afloat. With my dad not working anymore and my mom not being able to work at this time, bills are starting to pile up from multiple hospital visits and doctor visits. We don't have a definitive answer as to how much longer we have with him, but we are going to do everything we can to make sure that when he does leave to be with GOD that he will pass peacefully. Any additional money that is not used will go towards future funeral expenses and give our family the freedom to grieve together. Thank you guys so much for all of your support throughout this entire process.
- 12/23 - My Father is currently very restless and in a lot of pain. After speaking to the Hospice doctor yesterday, they recommended that we put my father Robert on scheduled medicine every 4 hours instead of when needed to ensure he is always comfortable. The doctor said when doing this, that there is a high chance of his heart rate lowering, and his blood pressure lowering due to the medication. They said currently his heart rate, and blood pressure are good, and that he is a strong man even though he is going through this. That is my dad though, always fighting! Today we did a pinning ceremony for my Farther since he was a Navy Seal. It was truly beautiful. Thank you everyone for the outreach, and all of the support.
