Hello, this account has been created to try and help a great, loving family in a time of great tragedy. Parents Dakota and Kaitlyn Merlo welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Dawson into this world May 31, 2021. He has 3 loving siblings, Kaileigh, Landon, and Kaidon, all under the age of 6. Tragically, Dawson was found not breathing and unresponsive on the morning of Friday, 8/6/2021. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is something every parent knows can happen, but nothing ever prepares you for it. Even with every precaution taken, and all safe sleep habits followed, this tragedy struck this loving family. Dawson was air lifted to Golisanos Children’s Hospital, where he has been on life support ever since. Unfortunately, these situations rarely have a happy ended.
Dawson’s father, Dakota, is the sole provider for his family. He is a great father, a hard worker, and an amazing friend. One time a fellow employee needed help moving furniture, and Dakota immediately drove an hour out of his way to help. That’s the kind of man he is.
Dakota is taking time off work to be a beacon of strength and love for his family at this time. On top of all this tragedy, the Merlo’s will soon find themselves in need of help. Medical bills, travel expenses to and from the hospital, lodging expenses, possible additional care, or for potential memorial services. This is not something this family can afford on their own. The last thing they should be worried about, at this time, is money. This is when their community, their friends, co-workers, and even kind and generous strangers need to step up and help them. Just as Dakota and his family would not hesitate to do for others. Please give what you can, and share this post to help spread this message.
Thank you all for your support.

With the birth of Dawson, my wife, Kaitlyn chose to be a stay at home mom. The greatest testimony to her strength and love for her family is in the faces and laughter of her children. Even at his tender age, Dawson showed through his smiles and contented manner that he knew and felt his wonderful mother’s love.
This has been the nightmare every parent dreads.
