Please help the Macheca Family

There are certain people that you know you can always rely on, people that will drop everything to help others in need. Everyone that has crossed paths with Phil and Karyn Macheca, can say they have met some of the most genuine, kind, and loving people out there. People who will rush to your side in an instant.

Now it’s our turn to rush to be there for them.

A typical opening day of Michigan rifle season was underway. Phil was hunting on state land in northern MI, 15 feet up in a tree when his hunting saddle failed sending him plummeting to the ground. That fall broke 4 ribs and fractured his T10 & T11 vertebrae. Thankfully, Phil was conscious and able to call 911, and his wife to explain his fall and that he had no feeling throughout his legs. Phil was transported to a local hospital but was required to be to transferred a Level I trauma center where he underwent extensive emergency spinal surgery. Phil has recently been transferred out of the ICU and is beginning the healing process and the start rehabilitation.

Phil requires intense rehabilitation and is awaiting a bed in one of Michigan’s top rehab hospitals. Phil will be out of work for an unknown time and his lovely wife, Karyn, has their 2 boys at home to care for and will need to return to work to keep the house going all while supporting Phil and his recovery on the opposite side of the state.

This accident is any hunter’s worst nightmare as we enjoy the Michigan outdoors. Phil’s nightmare became reality due to a failure in equipment that was new. Please double check your equipment regularly, especially tree stand equipment, no matter how new it is.
