Please help the Hinz Family

Doing this on behalf of David Hinz and Aida DeJesus and their beautiful (now angel) little girl Becky. These are the exact words from her mother, Aida . . .

My little girl was diagnosed last March with Leukemia. The doctors told us last month she had no leukemia cells left and they said a month ago the chemo she will be receiving next will be difficult to administer. They had to make sure there wasn't any leukemia cells hidden in her marrow or spinal fluids. Next month she would have been in consolidating. Last Monday we went to the hospital for a low grade fever and she had severe dry eye due to the chemo which caused her eyes to dry out and she had really bad scratches on her eye which they called corneal abrasion. She was scared but felt better after they gave her medicine, also she had a low grade fever which they thought was because of her blood counts being non existent.

So every day she got a little sicker, she got blood transfusions and platelets daily, they did not help. Doctors said they are not sure what is going on because they had her on three different antibiotics. Well by Friday she didn't want to talk or eat, they ran more tests and again told me they are not sure why she's getting sicker. Saturday she slept all day, would not eat. They did a chest x-ray and said it was pneumonia. They started her on stronger antibiotics and morphine to help her with her breathing. I woke up at 5:30 am Sunday morning, she had to go to the bathroom, so I helped her and she went back to bed at 6 am, I kissed her on the head and said I'm gonna get a coffee and bring you a drink because you have to drink something. She nodded her head. I came back to the room and said ok Beck, time for a drink. I put the straw by her lip and seen the side of her face wasn't right then I looked at her hand it was clenched so I screamed for the nurse. They came in and immediately took her down for an MRI. The doctors did not say anything to me at this point so we went back up to the room and they ordered a chest x-ray and ultrasound of her heart. None of the doctors would tell me anything, they said they have to consult with one of her doctors. After a short while, her doctor came in and said she had a stroke and there is something called vegitation on one of her heart valves that caused the pneumonia and a clot tracked to the brain and caused swelling. He said it doesn't look good and they transferred her to pediatric intensive care. We got there and they immediately put her on a respirator and were trying to control her blood pressure, it was dropping so low. They put in a catheter in the vein in her leg and we were told to go into the waiting room. While they do the procedure, 5 minutes passed. In that time we seen doctors running in the hall and they sent in a preacher and a nurse the nurse said, do you want to be with your baby, these might be her final moments. So me and Dave went in, they were doing chest compressions on her tiny body and they said I can hold her hand . . . I did and the doctor whispered to me that I can tell them when to stop. She was brain dead and would not recover. I looked at David and then told them to stop. This all happened in a ten hour span. They are still not sure why this happened, they don't know how she had vegetation on her heart that was undetected.

My heart breaks for them. Please help us raise money to help put their baby girl at peace.
