On March 10th Chris left home for work. While traveling on the highway a semi truck in front of him did an illegal u-turn blocking both of his lanes. Chris slammed on his brakes and swerved to avoid going through the trailer. He tried to make it on a side road but couldn't slow down enough. His truck went through the guard rail and air born on its side over the mountain. His truck collided with several trees that smashed the cab down on the driver's compartment knocking him unconscious and traping him between his seat and the cab of the truck. The people in the car behind him came to his rescue and got him out of the truck and helped him up the hill. They called 911 and he was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital where he went through several xrays and CT scans. The doctors diagnosed Chris with 2 broken bones on the left side of his face and a broken C1 an C2 vertebrae. With the severity of his injuries they life flighted him to a hospital that specializes in cervical spine injuries. He was admitted to the ER and went through another series of x-rays and CT scans. The spine doctor explained the severity of his injuries and what the options for treatment would be. The doctor thought the his bones might heal on there own so issued a c-collar and several follow up appointments. On the most recent appointment Chris' neck bones had shifted in critical condition. Chris was admitted to the ICU where he went through more xrays, CT scans and an MRI. Chris ended up having surgery where the doctors fused his C1, C2 and C3 vertebrea together. They placed 4 screws and 2 rods to hold his neck in place. Doctors said he would lose 50% of the mobility in his neck. He is currently recovering but dealing with severe pain, discomfort and emotional distress. He has to wear a c-collar for 8 to 12 weeks then starts physical therapy to learn how to use the muscles in his neck. Chris is just 33 years old and has a difficult road of recovery and life ahead of him. From his family and friends we are asking for anything to help and we understand that people sometimes don't have much to give, but anything is a blessing and we greatly thank everyone for any donations.
