Hello. Let me introduce you to the Carey's, my little sister, Miriam, and my brother in law, Neil. They live in front of a little creek, and next to a highway, tucked into the northern Pennsylvania countryside. They have raised three girls, and two boys. Miriam has worked for a big warehouse outside of town for twenty years, and Neil has worked fixing Roads and plowing snow for 13 years. They are just two Americans, trying to make it.
A little over a month ago, Neils stomach started to hurt insufferably, so they went to the hospital, to be told that he had pancreatitis from an autoimmune disease, they think (as he doesn't drink). Just Incase you don't know, the pancreas helps with breaking down foods in the stomach and releasing enzymes to help absorb nutrients.
Miriam did what any loyal wife should do, she stayed by his side, hoping each day for good news, while watching things get steadily worse, to the point that Neil had to be put on a ventilator , because his lungs started filling with fluid.
After about twenty five days, and the ups and downs of medical care, Neil was released from the hospital, to a nursing home, as he had lost his strength , and was very weak, from being bed ridden for so long, and Miriam, begrudgingly left his side to go back to work, and
not even a week later, Neil started feeling pain again. Miriam took him in for an m.r.i. only to find that Neil had sepsis because part of his pancreas was dead, and he had to be readmitted. Miriam called off work again, to be by her man's side, and waited patiently for two weeks at the hospital for the doctors to add stints, and scrape dead tissue, and monitor the situation.
Now, finally, Neil is home, Miriam is back to work, and all is well, Well for the moment. Neil was told he will have to go back periodically for months to let the doctors monitor the healing process, and more procedures, and he can not work while he is healing, Miriam is working as much as she can, but has to take off work for doctors appointments, and even though they have health insurance, the medical bills will be rolling in real soon.
Neither Miriam or Neil have ever asked for help, for one reason or another, they have always scraped by, even during hard times, but this is going to hurt them.
I wouldn't normally ask for help, but they are going to need help, as there are additional surgery's ahead. I am Miriam's older brother, and having a young family, I can't help completely, So I'm asking for help for Miriam and Neil . So they will be able to pay their medical debt, and Household bills as they do not stop when you're sick. They would truly appreciate any help.
