On March 13, 2019, my best friends mom, Barbara Lee (also known as Mama Lee to many) suffered a severe head injury while alone at their new home in Corsicana. She was SO excited about her dream home, a big beautiful old home with a wrap around porch. She always talks about the grandkids sitting on the porch playing in the summer, this is all part of her dream. She has worked her entire life to make this dream come true.
Barbara had gone down late the night of March 13 in preparation of the delivery of her new kitchen appliances the next morning at 10am. She was so excited to get her new beautiful kitchen in. Somewhere a little after 10:00pm we believe she had a horrible fall, from what we understand so far, on the front porch of her home. She fell unconscious at some point on the front porch and was not discovered until the next morning when the delivery men arrived. The temperatures were low that evening but by the Grace of God and her strong will, she survived. The delivery men arrived on time and immediately called 911. They were unsure of her prognosis and she was brought by careflite from Navarro County to Medical City in Plano Tx. She has been there since March 14th, and we are praying for miracles. Thursday she had a craniotomy to relieve the pressure and swelling in her brain and she made it through surgery great. Although there was significant damage in the frontal lobe portion. She has been heavily sedated to keep her calm so she can heal like her body needs to. They were able to take the breathing tube out day after surgery and she did amazing, started breathing immediately on her own. This was an amazing step. The anxiety caught up with her so she needed a little help from the cannula. As of Monday, though, they needed to intubate her again due to all the heavy secretion building up in her lungs. Since, she has been resting much better, giving her body and brain time to do what it needs to do. She is currently on 100% oxygen and they will try and ween her slowly from that, so as not to stress her any.
If you've grown up in Irving and gone to the Gibson's Garden Center, you know John and Barbara. They've always been willing to help and give to those who were in need. Barbara is the most caring, loving and selfless person. She is loved by all that know her and is the glue that sticks her family together. She has been a second mother to me since the age of 7 and it kills me to see her and her entire family like this. She has always been there for me and was even more of a mother to me after I lost my mother a year ago.
She has a loving husband, 3 children and 6 beautiful grandchildren that need her.
Since the the accident, medical bills are already piling up. If it is possible for you to give anything at all, her family and I would be more than grateful. Any amount that you give would go along way as these bills continue to rise.
Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and for considering a donation.
