Doctor said we need took forward to the next 3 months today. I have to hurry.
I’m a father and grandfather and
love my family just like everyone else.
Recently I received some very bad news. I was diagnosed with "Extensive Small Cell Lung Cancer" and told I may be lucky to have 6-12 months to live.
It is considered incurable. Only treatable at present.
After seeking options with my doctors and family, I started an intensive treatment combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Although the survival rate is between 5 -10% we hope I will have more time with the new immunotherapy.
After the first treatment, I was exhausted and had to rest frequently. Some of you may have been through this routine yourselves or with your family members so you will know how frightening, lonely and depressing this process is. However, I am in good hands and grateful for my doctors.
Besides being quite ill from the treatments, I also learned the depressing news that my insurance will not cover some of my most important chances for survival.
These include genetic testing and many alternative and integrative therapies and experimental trials. It also will not cover the cost of travel and lodging to trials, palliative care of meals and additional help I need as a result of other health issues and fatigue from the treatments.
I am determined to fight this disease and for this reason I must do something I fortunately, have never had to do in my life -- I must humbly ask for help. I am telling my story in part to seek help in covering the medical and other costs. I also would like to (depending on health) travel to say goodbye to many of you and to seek alternative treatments. I am hopeful that the treatments will work and that I will not be saying goodbye but that I will see you again soon.
