Please Help Tarin Truluck Rebuild After Devastating Flood

Hi there! My name is Mary Grace Anderson, and I'm setting up this fund for my sister, Tarin Truluck.

On Friday, September 27th, 2024, Gerton, NC was hit with record breaking flooding from hurricane Helene. This flooding caused everyone in my family to be severely affected and stranded in their homes and are still without power or cell phone service. I finally got a short phone call this morning (Saturday the 28th) from Tarin with an update from the mountain. While everyone in our family is thankfully still alive and well, but stranded, Tarin was much more affected than the rest of my family.

Her home on Bearwallow Mountain has been completely taken by the flooding.

This is a photo of the "creek" that used to run behind her property. The flooding eroded away the road, and my sisters home (which used to be about 30 feet to the right of this photo.) Losing this home is absolutely devastating, as my sister is a single mother to 3 beautiful children and a local business owner. While trying to check on the status of her home, there was a mudslide which caused a car accident. Her only vehicle is also now totaled.

I am asking for any help we can for her and her children to get through this time of home displacement and transportation issues while the details of getting a new home are getting figured out.

If you know Tarin, you know she is stubborn, and she will never ask for help. She's too strong of a woman for that. Which is why I'm trying to do it for her! If you're a member of the mountain community, you know how much Tarin does for everyone around her. She'll give you the shirt off of her back if it will help you, and I want to try and show her that her community cares about her too. Her 3 children are absolutely beautiful, resilient and strong, just like her. She owns a post-construction cleaning business in WNC and works harder than anyone I know. She has been working 10-14 hours a day everyday for the past few months to try and get her business running efficiently and to raise funds. This flood has also taken away her supplies to be able to run her business.

She is starting over from scratch, and any help I can try to gather for her during this time will be extremely appreciated. Tarin is such an incredible person and deserves a chance to get this fresh start off the ground. Any questions or concerns on this matter, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. My entire family still does not have a way to communicate with the outside world. I will add pictures as I receive them, but that won't be guaranteed for a good few days. Please help my sister and her kiddos get through this! Any funds that I can raise for them will be going straight to a vehicle and day-to-day expenses while they are trying to find a new place to live. Anything extra will be going to revitalizing her property. Please consider helping out our sister!
