For the past several weeks my dad (Jon) wasnt able to eat any food or liquids thinking he had the flu he lost over 40 pounds within 2-3 weeks, after finally convincing him to go to the doctor that something more major was wrong, he finally went. With our doctor thinking he had a stricture in his esophagus, he got a referral to see a doctor so he could get a scope down his throat to see what was actually causing the problem, well Wednesday November 30th we decided to go to emergency considering for 4 days he wasnt getting any nutrients or fluid into his body. They found a mass in his esophagus that looked malignant, all of his other organs thankfully were in perfect condition. On friday December 2nd he had his procedure with the scope and they determined that the 4 inch mass that was completely blocking his esophagus was cancerous and they took a biopsy. After the procedure they admitted him in the hospital because he was suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. Saturday December 3rd they put a feeding tube into his intestines so he finally get food and medication into his body considering he can't swallow anything. Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus is what he was diagnosed with, he will have to do 5 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. And then he has to get well enough for a very important surgery that will remove the bottom half of his esophagus and connect his stomach with what's left. While over the past week my family has been through a lot emotionally with my dads health, now we have to struggle with co-pays, supplies to keep my dad in good health (oxygen tank, saliva suction machine, food for his feeding tube, medication, ect..) Since my dad is the sole provider for my family and him being of off work for several months to come.. we need help. Anything will help, thank you.
