It is with a heavy heart that I write this about my brother-in-law, Tim.
Tim Flanders, a devoted husband and father of two little boys, 7 & 3 years old, had been dealing with pain since the winter of 2017. At that time he went to the doctor’s, frustrated without a firm diagnosis and ultimately still suffering with the pain that continued to get worse.
In Winter of 2018 he had additional testing with yet again no specific diagnosis. Finally, this past March, it was determined he has an aggressive form of bladder cancer. The doctors started him on an aggressive treatment plan that would continue for 6 weeks and once complete he would have a Cystoscopy to determine if the treatment was working. Unfortunately he couldn’t finish the treatment as his body wasn’t reacting favorably and the pain was too severe to continue. He completed 5 of the 6 treatments and had a follow up Cystoscopy to determine if the treatment he completed worked - sadly there was no improvement. It was at this time, they gave him two options: (1) Try chemo (which isn’t as aggressive as his first treatment that didn’t work) or the removal of his bladder. Due to the fact that his initial aggressive treatment didn’t work and that the rate of return for bladder cancer is high, they have decided on radical bladder (and prostate given its proximity) removal and neobladder reconstruction. In doing this, an attempt will be made to rebuild a new bladder using a portion of his intestines.
Knowing what they are inevitably facing with the medical bills anticipated, we are humbly requesting any support you are able and willing to provide.
Tim's family would like to thank the many friends and family who have reached out to support him through this difficult time. The outpouring of love and encouragement has been overwhelming.
Please keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery.
Thank you,
Katrina (Smith) & Melissa (McGurk)
