Today we witnessed one of our cats, Soot, eat a small mesh bag, maybe 3x4in, that had fallen off of a desk. The only thing visible was a small gold string, but she swallowed it too quickly. We immediately enlisted the help of Brian's mom, Lori, who is a veterinarian, and we tried several ways of getting her to vomit the foreign body with no success. Our only option was an emergency visit to a veterinarian hospital.

They were able to remove the foreign body with an endoscopy, thankfully.

After 6+ hours of waiting, we were able to take her home.

We weren't prepared though. We were looking at pet insurance, but none would activate in time. Brian and I split the cost out of pocket, but we're now both only $100 or so away from overdrafting our accounts. We're lucky it could have been more, we just barely made the $1,988.95.

She had bloodwork done as well that saw some elevated sugar levels and creatinine levels. We're hoping it's from stress, but she'll need to be tested again in a couple of weeks.

We learned our lesson for sure about pet insurance, but for now, we are in a tough bind. We recently had some major life expenses. I thought I'd see if any kind people would be willing to donate, in honor of both Soot's (August 4th) and my (July 26th) birthdays.

We're only asking for the cost we paid out of pocket for the emergency. Just to help us get back above water just enough to survive.

Soot is very important to us, and we didn't think for a second not to get her the help she needed.
