Hi my name is Leesa Hobday, and I'm related to the Burt family from Lockhart.

David's wife Teresa is my cousin.

David and his family are always the 1st in to help other's in any way they can.

I've created this go fund me fund-raiser to help support the family.

David was born with a hereditary condition Polycystic kidney disease. While David was younger the condition didn't effect him greatly. However as he's aged the condition has gotten alot worse and deteriorated to the point his kidneys were functioning at 5-7% which left him needing a kidney transplant. David has been on dialysis for the last 16mths. Travelling 3 days every week for 5 hrs each round. The family live in a small remote rural town of Lockhart. So this means David and Terri are required to travel some distance for treatment, doctors and specialists appointments. Most of these appointments being in Melbourne.

Also during this last 12mths their 13yr old son has also undergone open heart surgery in Melbourne for a condition he was born with. All his appointments etc specialists were all in Melbourne also.

While being on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, Terri was confirmed to be a match for donating one of her kidneys to save her husband.

Over the last 12mths David's health has deteriorated and on the 3/6/25, Terri and David done the trip again and he was admitted into Royal Melbourne hospital to undergo having his kidney removed to prepare for the transplant. Each trip they're required to stay a number of weeks.

David and Terri are scheduled to have the transplant procedure on the 30th July in Melbourne. They're needing to stay for 6 to 8 weeks this time.

The family have been silently struggling financially, physically and emotionally for the past 16mths. They are not one's to ask for help or assistance but rather the kind of people that are there to help other's.

During these hard times that they are enduring they've helped me during my fight with cancer, they've donated and helped raise funds for others in need, an most recently help raised funds for a local young man fighting leukaemia.

All these added expenses of medical,Travelling, accommodation etc plus also trying to stay afloat and maintain the expenses of the family home were their 3 children remain with their grandmother while theyre away for weeks has been a huge struggle for the family.

The next procedure as mentioned above they'll be away for 6 to 8 weeks. Accommodation cost alone is in the thousands. They're unable to stay in communal living areas due to risks of infection and accommodation needs to be close proximity to the hospital. And all the other added expenses that await them. This is taking its toll on the family.

Can I ask for your generous support in this fund-raiser to help ease the financial burden that the Burt family are facing, so they can focus on what matters the most, being together an the long road of healing for both David and Terri.
