Please Help Support My Sister and Her Grandchildren as They Face a Devastating Loss
Life can change in an instant. In late February, my brother-in-law Mark Monin was enjoying a day of ice skating and sledding with his two young grandchildren at a local park. However, in mid-March, Mark was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. It had already spread to his liver, lymph nodes, bones, and lungs. After a week at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, he was released on Sunday April 6th for hospice care at home. Today Mark passed away at home and the family is facing a devastating loss.
Mark and my sister Fawn have been the full-time caregivers for their two young grandchildren, an 11-year-old and a 6-year-old, who they have raised since they were babies. These children are their whole world, and they have poured everything they have into raising them with love, stability, and care. While they are "Nana" and "Papa" to the boys, both consider them their own children.
While Fawn gladly gave up her career as a nurse to raise the boys, the reality is that she will now be facing this new challenge without Mark. She will need to cope with her own grief, ensure the boys get the support they need, and find a way to deal with the medical expenses and the everyday costs of raising the boys.
For anyone that knows Mark, they would know that he has always been a hard worker and someone that is dedicated to family. Someone that served over 10 years for his country, though not one to talk about his service. Most importantly, a loving husband to his wife Fawn, and a hero to the boys that call him "Papa".
We are asking for your help - any donation, no matter the size, will go directly to supporting Fawn and her grandchildren as they face this heartbreaking loss and try to rebuild their lives.
Please consider sharing this with others. Your kindness means more than words can express.
