Please Help Support Missi As She Begins this Healing Journey

Hi everyone! Please read and share! Our friend Melissa Mabe has been at Grant Hospital since February 6th, 2025, after needing emergency surgery. She has been diagnosed with Addison’s/adrenal insufficiency, which is a very serious and possibly fatal illness where adrenal glands produce insufficient amounts of the hormone cortisol and sometimes aldosterone. When the body is under stress (e.g., fighting an infection), this deficiency of cortisol can result in a life-threatening Addisonian crisis. Missi was having symptoms of this crisis and went to the emergency room. Once there, she received devastating news of massive infections and would need to have her spleen, appendix, and part of her bowel removed. She was transferred to Grant where she underwent this emergency surgery. Luckily, she has an amazing team of surgeons and is slowly pulling through; however, it’s going to take months to heal. She is at high risk of more infections and complications because of her weakened immune system, loss of her infection-fighting spleen, and surgery sites struggling to heal closed. She was already recovering from an emergency back surgery she had in November, and now all this! Scott has been working and driving back and forth daily, and we see the exhaustion and fatigue wearing on him as well. This couple has, no doubt, always been there to help anyone in need. They are the most thoughtful, caring, and empathetic friends and have been there when needed to so many! Now it’s our turn. They need all the help and support we can give!

They will be struggling with medical bills, purchasing medical devices and supplies for home, home health care services, and daily needs while Missi is off from work and healing.
