2025 began with an exciting start for Megan, Ella, and Stevie. Megan had just wrapped up a successful show season with her beautiful horse, Chester. Ella was proudly following in her mum’s footsteps, competing and winning lots of ribbons on her little pony Sam. Everyone was happy healthy and fit, enjoying life’s activities and adventures.
However, in early March, Megan began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Despite seeking help at her local hospital in Bordertown, SA, she wasn’t able to get the care she needed and was quickly transferred to Mount Gambier Hospital, where doctors discovered that an abscess on her liver had ruptured. This led to a lengthy surgery to remove fluid and investigate further, but unfortunately, Megan's condition did not improve.
As her situation worsened, Megan was referred to a specialist in Adelaide. She was flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital via the Royal Flying Doctor Service. There, she underwent a second, four-hour surgery to drain the liver abscess again, and to remove a 10cm cyst from her right ovary (discovered during the liver investigation), she also had to have her gallbladder removed to allow better access to the affected areas.
Despite these surgeries, Megan’s recovery has been a tough battle. After more tests, including scans and a biopsy, it was revealed that Megan has stage 4 melanoma, with growths on her liver, lymph nodes, lungs, bones and in some other areas of deep tissue. Megan faces a long and challenging fight ahead with immunotherapy targeting the cancer.
At this time, we’re reaching out for support through this GoFundMe campaign to assist Megan, Stevie, and Ella during this incredibly difficult time. Megan’s treatment will require frequent travel to Adelaide, which is a three-hour drive from their home in Mundulla, and she will need to take significant time off work.
The road ahead is uncertain, but with your support, we can ease some of the financial burden and allow them to focus on what truly matters – Megan’s recovery.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you are able to help, please consider contributing to this campaign. Your generosity will mean the world to Megan and her family.
Thank you for your support.
