My name is Rebecca and I’ve created this GoFundMe for my brother, Sgt. Nicholas Cifranic.

In the early morning hours of January 28, 2025, my sister-in-law, or as we just call each other sister, Marly, suffered a devastating stroke at only 33 years old.

Marly is such a beautiful person inside and out. She is kind, loyal, silly, and she loves my brother fiercely. She is supportive and encouraging and shares her love of God and coffee with everyone she meets. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Marly, then you’ve experienced her calm, loving energy firsthand. She’s determined and brave, and most importantly, she is a fighter.

When Marly was 16, doctors discovered that she had an AVM in her brain. She’s experienced seizures throughout her life and has suffered a stroke before, but nothing of this magnitude. While it was something that my brother knew could happen again, nothing could have ever truly prepared him for the excruciating heartache that has followed.

Marly has been in the hospital for a little over 6 weeks now. Her most recent CT scans show over 10 major aneurysms and multiple smaller ones. The neurosurgeon has a plan to embolize and repair them, but the surgery is extremely risky. In order to fully embolize all of the aneurysms, they will need to perform roughly 12 surgeries approximately 2 weeks apart.

Just last week, she underwent her first procedure. While the surgery was successful, the neurosurgeon expressed to Nick and Marly’s family, that considering the extent of damage he found to her brain, he fears continuing on with the surgeries will do more harm than good. However, doing the surgeries is the only way to prevent her brain from bleeding again.

Following the surgeon's advice, the plan moving forward will be for Marly to be transferred to a long-term care facility to undergo physical therapy in hopes she will regain her cognitive function. Once progress is seen, they will continue with the surgeries. This is our only hope that Marly will be able to live a fulfilling life outside of a hospital bed.

So many people have generously reached out to my brother asking how they can help. All he asks for is prayers. Prayers for a miracle that God will heal his wife and that he can wake up from this nightmare he has been living the past 6 weeks.

Marly es una persona maravillosa por dentro y por fuera. Es amable, leal, divertida y ama a mi hermano con fervor. Es comprensiva y alentadora, y comparte su amor por Dios y el café con todos los que conoce. Cuando Marly tenía 16 años, los médicos descubrieron que tenía una malformación arteriovenosa (MAV) en el cerebro. Ha sufrido convulsiones a lo largo de su vida y ya había sufrido un derrame cerebral, pero nada de esta magnitud. Aunque mi hermano sabía que podía volver a ocurrir, nada lo habría preparado para el insoportable dolor que le sobrevino.

Marly lleva poco más de seis semanas hospitalizada. Sus últimas tomografías computarizadas muestran más de diez aneurismas mayores y varios más pequeños. El neurocirujano tiene un plan para embolizarlos y repararlos, pero la cirugía es extremadamente arriesgada. Para embolizar completamente todos los aneurismas, será necesario realizar aproximadamente doce cirugías con un intervalo de dos semanas.

La semana pasada se sometió a su primer procedimiento. Si bien la cirugía fue exitosa, el neurocirujano les comunicó a Nick y a la familia de Marly que, considerando la magnitud del daño cerebral detectado, teme que continuar con las cirugías le haga más daño que bien. Sin embargo, realizar las cirugías es la única manera de evitar que su cerebro vuelva a sangrar.

Siguiendo el consejo del cirujano, el plan de ahora en adelante será trasladar a Marly a un centro de cuidados a largo plazo para que reciba fisioterapia con la esperanza de que recupere su función cognitiva. Una vez que se observe progreso, continuarán con las cirugías. Esta es nuestra única esperanza de que Marly pueda vivir una vida plena fuera de una cama de hospital.
