Please help support Mark Hanson

This campaign has been created to support Mark Hanson, maker, friend, and respected designer. On October 16, Mark was on a ladder trimming his hedge, as he has done seasonally for the past 20 years. This time, the ladder slipped out from beneath him and he fell head first from about 16 feet up, sustaining fractures to his neck, nose, and arm. Mark was lucky to not have been killed or paralyzed. He spent several days in the hospital trauma ward. In surgery, they put a plate and 8 screws in his arm, and we hope there will not be permanent nerve damage or dexterity issues to his hand - being that he is, by trade, a talented fine furniture designer & maker. Mark will be in a neck brace for a minimum of 3 months, followed up by physical therapy for his neck & hand. Mark is self employed and will be unable to work until he is well recovered. As a result, he will be unable to earn income during this period. Combined with mounting medical bills, this adds additional stress to an already difficult situation. Although Mark does have insurance, the deductibles and limits of coverage, combined with other expenses and costs will result in financial hardship for him and his family. The timing of this accident couldn’t be worse, as his award-winning rocking chair was just gaining momentum within the marketplace.
Mark has been designing and making fine furniture for nearly 40 years. He grew up in Colorado and established Mark Hanson Studio in Portland, Oregon in 1983. His experience includes extensive training in both Western and Eastern woodworking methods, used to translate his unique designs into heirloom-quality furniture. His pieces have the makers touch, increasingly rare in today’s mass produced environment. Mark Hanson’s furniture is simply “Modern Craft” at its finest.
Mark loves the outdoors and has traveled the world wide and far; both have influenced his work. He has been featured in many publications, including Fine Woodworking and American Craft. Mark was a representative to the Governor’s Trade Mission to Japan for the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers, and a recipient of the prestigious Table, Lamp & Chair Award. Most recently the Hanson Rocker received Hot New Next People’s Choice Award during Portland Design Week 2018 and Jury Pick at the ShowPDX 2018 Furniture Show Exhibition. We at MadeHere consider this item to be amongst the finest and most admired products from the hundreds of makers we work with.
