My name is Kevin, and this is my best friend, Lumi.

Lumi is an 8-year-old Boston Terrier with the sweetest personality you could ever imagine. She has been by my side through every chapter of my adult life, including some of the darkest times. Her loyal, funny, loving, and full-of-joy personality has brought me and my mother out of some of the deepest depressions we have ever been through. If you’ve ever met her, you know how special she is. Everyone immediately falls in love with her.

Recently, Lumi was diagnosed with a brain tumor – likely glioma, and our world changed overnight. The doctors told us that without treatment, she will likely only have 1–2 months to live. It’s heartbreaking to hear that kind of news.

There is hope — According to Dr. Morales of VCA in Palm Beach, Lumi is a candidate for radiation treatment, and her doctors believe it could give her years longer to live with a good quality of life. She still eats, cuddles, and wants to be loved; however, we can see the pain she is currently in, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. She is a fighter and not ready to go, and neither are we.

The treatment is painless to Lumi, but unfortunately, the cost of treatment is overwhelming.

• This does not include the MRI, CT scans, office visits, medications, or follow-up care

We are doing everything we can to give Lumi a chance at a longer, happy life, but it's incredibly difficult to afford this on our own.

I hate to do any kind of fundraiser because I know everyone has a personal struggle they are dealing with, and this happens to be ours currently, but we are asking for help — whether it’s a donation or even just sharing this fundraiser. Every bit gets us closer to saving her life.
