Hi, I'm Jennifer, a family friend of Leslie Balgobin (Kruszewski) and Lilly Hall.
As some of you may know, Lilly Hall was seriously injured on April 17 in a motor vehicle accident on the Mass Pike, while heading into work. Lilly had to be extricated from the vehicle, which was under a tractor-trailer. She was swiftly flown to UMass via medical helicopter. She was intubated and instantly went under two major surgeries. Lilly sustained a C4 burst fracture, occipital condyle fracture, and cervical vertebral artery occlusion. The cervical vertebral artery occlusion was addressed with surgery, and a coil was placed so that she could undergo an anterior cervical 4 corpectomy, internal reduction and fixation of C3-C5 fracture with allograft, posterior C3-C5 fusion, and a C4 laminectomy. Lilly currently has an ET tube and an OG tube in place to help her breathe and supply nutrition. Hopefully, on April 23, 2025, Lilly can undergo surgery to remove both of those tubes and replace them with a tracheostomy and a PEG. Her diaphragm is too weak for her to take adequate breaths on her own. Over time and with rehab, Lilly may be able to have those removed, but given the level and severity of the injuries, this is the best they can do for her at this time. Unfortunately, Lilly also caught pneumonia as well. Leslie, Lilly's mom, is already trying to find the best rehab centers, equipment, and care so that Lilly has the absolute BEST chances. Leslie doesn’t leave her brave 20-year-old daughter’s side; her home is over an hour and a half each way for travel. Today, Lilly is alert and arousable to voices and can nod or blink her eyes appropriately to questions. She has gross motor skills in her right arm with no sensation below the breast. We are hopeful that as the swelling goes down from the trauma and the surgeries, in time, she will regain function in the rest of her extremities with the help of rehab and support from family and friends. We’re extremely thankful that she’s alive, her brain was undamaged, and she’s able to mouth some words. For all of you that know Lilly personally, you know that she has that fire and stubborn drive to help her become independent and live the life she dreamed of. She has a very long road of recovery ahead of her, so please keep her in your prayers and thoughts. All donations will go to Lilly’s medical bills and care for her unforeseeable future. We’re so thankful that Lilly is alive and is continuing to fight this battle, as she endured such a tragic life-altering incident. Please send love, good thoughts, prayers and donations would be amazing as well, as she has a long road a head of her. Leslie goes above and beyond to help others, I feel, pray and hope our community can help her family as well!
