FastAid - Community First Responder scheme. CFRs are volunteers trained to a nationally recognised qualification. They provide life-saving treatment to patients in local communities. CFRs are ‘called out’ by West Midlands Ambulance Service if they can reach a life-threatening situation quicker than an Ambulance Crew. Community First Responders normally cover an area of approximately 7 minutes of travelling time from their home or work place. CFRs give their time freely and rely entirely on fundraising and donations to support the work they do. The scheme in Birmingham & Solihull is called FastAid and is a registered charity.
