Darren's fight to Heal #DreamitHealitlLiveit

Donation protected
On June 14th 2019 my brother, Darren Breault, suffered a terrible accident.

As many of you already know, Darren is the type of Contractor (and friend) that jumps at the chance to help a buddy.  So, it is of no surprise that when a friend asked for help removing a car port from the side of a house, Darren responded "of course".

As Darren was working on a roof cutting away individual sections for removal he was struck by a piece of material that knocked him off the roof  and sent him 20 feet to the ground, face first, onto the asphalt pavement.

Against all odds Darren was able to protect his head from the fall. He did, however, suffer extensive injuries that will have a life-long impact.

We are incredibly grateful to the medical / surgical teams who performed:

•A 10 hour surgery to repair his shattered elbow which included a compound fracture of the humerus and broken forearm.
•A 6 hour surgery to repair his shattered left knee and a tear in his ACL.
•Extensive and ongoing therapy for nerve damage in his dominant right hand.
•Continuous full-time care as a severe sprain in his right ankle makes moving (along with the injuries listed above) incredibly difficult and painful.

After spending 2 weeks at U-mass Medical's Trauma Unit and 3 weeks at Whittier Rehabilitation Center we are relieved to report that Darren is now home.  He is currently receiving in-home Physical Therapy to gain strength so he can learn to walk again.  He is also working with an Occupational Therapist so he can learn how to care for himself while his body recovers from this long list of injuries.

The medical team has forecasted his recovery will be at least one year.  They have also set Darren's expectations that it is unlikely he'll be able to continue working in the same line of work.

Although we are all remaining positive and believe in Darren's ability to recover, we also understand the incredible financial burden the family is experiencing.

Darrens request to collect Workers Compensation has been denied, (they are trying to appeal) Without any other form of income to lean on he'll be without pay for the foreseeable future. As the bread winner in the family you can imagine how devastating this is.

As of today, they are short on funds for basic necessities, let alone the mounting medical bills that continue to flood in.

This is where we ask our friends, family and community for your support.

As the father to a six year old son (who struggles to watch his hero heal) and a dedicated husband to Kim (who has been juggling every aspect of life for her family) Darren could use your help so they don't have to worry about losing their home or vehicles as he faces the life-changing task of recovery.

If you can participate in raising funds to help alleviate some of the weight this event has caused you would quite literally be helping him find a way to take the next step forward in life.
