Please help support Danielle's road to recovery

Please join us in supporting Danielle during this difficult time.

Hi there, I’m Victoria, Danielle's friend, and I'm so grateful that you’ve stopped by this fundraising page. Over the last 6 weeks, Danielle has endured countless medical challenges in the ICU as a result of sepsis caused by strep A.

While I'm so happy to share that she's started making positive strides, it's been a true rollercoaster, and she needs our support. Sepsis was like a tornado that entered Danielle's body and damaged anything within its path. Though the infection is gone, her body is now left to heal from the devastation it left behind. On top of the trauma she’s experienced, Danielle will be hit with substantial medical expenses. Just days before getting sick, Danielle was laid off from her job, adding another layer of complication to this nightmare.

If you are in a position to donate (or simply share this page with your community!), your generosity and kindness will have a direct impact on Danielle's recovery. The funds raised here will be used to help cover things like medical bills, prosthetics, travel & living expenses, and rehabilitation costs.

Your support means the world to Danielle and her community. Danielle’s parents, Vinny and Sally, and her brothers, Eric and Michael, are truly some of the kindest souls. No one should have to endure the nightmare that they’ve been living. Let's do everything possible to help Danielle and her family during this rollercoaster.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

We will continue to provide updates on Danielle's progress on this page.

On 1/31, Danielle went to urgent care for a severe sore throat, a move that would ultimately save her life. Upon arrival, her throat had swelled to the point of closing, and she was immediately rushed to the ER via ambulance. She was intubated and transferred to the ICU at Jeanes Campus Hospital, where things rapidly escalated. Within hours, her body went into septic shock. The infection began aggressively attacking her vital organs. Danielle went into heart failure and experienced cardiogenic shock, kidney and liver injury, low blood pressure, and high fevers of up to 105.9.

On 2/3, Danielle was transferred to the Cardiac ICU at Temple University Hospital, where she narrowly escaped needing an ECMO machine (heart/lung machine). In the weeks that followed, Danielle remained on the ventilator and underwent dialysis treatment.

After enduring 20 days on the ventilator via a breathing tube, Danielle underwent a tracheotomy on 2/20 to relieve her of intubation. With the trach, Danielle was able to wean off the ventilator.

On 3/3, Danielle left the ICU and entered a respiratory unit of the hospital, where she is currently recovering one day at a time.

Sadly, Danielle experienced severe circulation issues during this process. As a result, she will need to have her fingers and toes amputated. This surgery will likely happen within the next couple of weeks. As you can imagine, this will be a life-altering trauma for Danielle. We are hoping to use some of the funds raised here towards getting her the best prosthetics.
