Friends, family, horse peeps, and animal lovers: Clooney and I need your help! Clooney had a keratoma in his right hind hoof that had to be removed surgically, and he's looking at six months of recovery. A keratoma is a rare type of tumor made of keratin that forms between the horse's coffin bone and the hoof wall.

Luckily it is benign but it can cause pain, lameness, and damage to the hoof by exerting pressure and potentially creating a void. Clooney has experienced all of these symptoms and has been in pain for a while now, but we've finally gotten to the bottom of it.

My amazing vet at Equine Medical Center in Maysville has removed the keratoma, and Clooney is now wearing a special shoe with a metal plate, which I remove, repack, and rewrap daily. He is on two weeks of stall rest and will hopefully be given a little more room to move around after that. He will need to be kept in a safe, clean, mud-free area for three months. He also needs a replacement shoe every five weeks for up to six months or more. After many vet visits, x-rays, the surgery itself, multiple medications, after-care supplies, and more, I have realized I must ask for help.

I am sad to share with you that unfortunately it has been a challenging year for me financially after being laid off almost a year ago.

Please help me keep Clooney the happy, healthy horse he deserves to be. Please help me keep him out of pain and rehab him back to a horse without lameness who can walk, run, and jump.
