Please help support a nurse in need

Hello everyone,

We are the nurses and staff of the Coronary Care Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital. We should like to share the story of our beautiful friend Angela. She has recently received the news of a devastating diagnosis.

Angela started nursing when she was just 20 years old. She has been nursing for 37 years. Angela first started her career at Fremantle Hospital in 1987 then transferred across to Fiona Stanley Hospital in 2015 when it opened. Angela is such a beautiful and kind person who is always willing to help and support others.

Angela is an incredibly hard working and compassionate nurse who is always willing to provide the best care to all her patients. She’s provided her unconditional support and her extensive nursing knowledge to all those she works with.

Angela has recently been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). These diseases affect nerves known as motor nerves, or motor neurons. In MND, these neurons degenerate and die. This causes the muscles to become weaker and weaker. This eventually leads to paralysis. There is no cure for MND. Most people with MND die within 1 to 10 years of developing the condition.

There is no known cause of MND, there is nothing you can to do prevent it

Treatment options focus on easing symptoms, maintaining quality of life and keeping mobile as possible for as long as possible.

We would like to support Angela with all the specialist appointments she will need to attend and any equipment/devices and home modifications she may need to assist with movement and function in the future. Please help us support and care for Angela as she done for so many of us over the years.
